Modern Anasazi Hand-stacked Wall Builders of Jerome AZ —Jane Moore

Jane Moore is one of the few women who built hand-stacked rock walls in Jerome. I always looked at her driveway and corral walls when I drove up to Richard’s house and assumed Chuck Runyon, her partner, built them. I am so embarrassed. Jane wrote, “Not too many people have ever seen them. I’m sending you a few pictures. I don’t know of too many other women in Jerome who do dry stack walls!”

Rescuing The Jerome AZ Fire Department

Carmen Kotting was one of two new firefighters that volunteered in the late nineteen seventies. “Just after I got on the department there was a fire on Diaz Street. Nobody showed up when the alarm went off, so I jumped on the ‘28 truck. It had a bent seat and I had to stand up on the petals. Going down hill, I had to double-clutch and pray the brakes would hold. By the time I got to the fire, my knees were jelly. Then others came and we hosed the fire out.”
